Doesn’t have the timing locked down yet
[Update: Clarifying the comments made during the NCSoft earnings call, a representative reached out to confirm that ArenaNet is still “taking a wait-and-see stance” with regards to a possible Guild Wars 2 expansion. It is, as expressed previously, under consideration.
“We are evaluating the performance of the game and deciding on when would be the best time to launch an expansion,” reads a statement. “But right now, our Living Story approach is very successful in keeping players engaged with new and exciting content. Launching boxed expansions are a great way to package content, but if we can do this on a more regular basis, something we’ve been doing since launch, it provides players with new content to explore and experience every time they log into the game.”]
During NCSoft’s earnings report, the publisher noted that there is a Guild Wars 2 expansion in the works at developer ArenaNet. Previously, the studio expressed interest in possibly doing an expansion, though it was far from a sure thing based on the wording used.
“We are preparing an expansion pack, but in terms of when we will actually launch it, it’s something that we’re still monitoring the situation on,” stated NCSoft managing director Nah Seong. “We’re looking at the performance of the game and deciding when it would be the best time to do the launch, and that’s still something we’re thinking about.”
Frankly, it seemed inevitable this would happen. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, either — ArenaNet has built a fair amount of goodwill with its free content updates so far.
