‘I am not going to continue as a competitive player’
On “Real Talk” with JP McDaniel, a YouTube show that interviews gaming personalities, Greg “Idra” Fields talked about the events surrounding his recent firing from Evil Geniuses’ StarCraft II team. He talks about a ton of topics, including his rage, contract (but no hard numbers), and his future. It is pretty clear that his online personality and his actual personality are like night and day.
Idra even gives his commentary on the recent exit from a seemingly unfinished match against the player Polt, in which he left the match (without a “good game,” of course) with 6K worth of resources and a maxed army size. He was thinking approximately 40 steps ahead, and didn’t see any way in which he could win at that stage of the game. “Terran air is now better than Zerg air,” he claims.
As for his comment calling community members “a bunch of fucks,” Idra says that it was meant towards the “fake” fans of himself, the game, and the eSports scene in general. He didn’t intend for it to offend the “real” fans that support the scene that they love. He apologizes to the real fans he offended and mentions he has to “be much more in clear in how [he] states things…obviously.” Yes, obviously indeed!
As for Idra’s future, he “would like to be the analytical commentator for whatever major events [he] can.” He mentions that he will continue to stream on his personal Twitch channel, and in fact he’s already back to streaming today. So Idra isn’t going away and will remain as a strong personality within the StarCraft community; he is simply shifting his focus from playing to commentating.
