Brave New World
Dozens of new units, nine new civilizations, eight new wonders, seven swans-a-swimming, four gameplay systems, and a partridge in a pear tree! This is all incoming in Brave New World, the freshly announced expansion pack for Civilization V (I made up the parts with birds since I couldn’t resist, but everything else is real).
Along with all this new content, culture will be getting a massive overhaul with a new cultural victory, cultural buildings, a world congress, polices, a new ideology system, international trade routes, and scenarios: the American Civil War, and Scramble for Africa. This expansion will be out this summer for $29.99.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun had a chance to learn a little bit more about the upcoming expansion. According to Ed Beach, the game’s lead programmer, the focus of Brave New World will be more on the latter half of the game, and having a new experience trying to get a cultural victory. Rather than just trying to get a bunch of policy trees maxed out, players will focus on spreading their culture around the world to become the dominate global culture. Pressure can be applied to other players to conform to your ways if your ideologies are strong enough, and ultimately they will have to change the way they do things or face a revolt.
