New game from Limbo’s lead gameplay designer

At first glance, I was ready to write off 140 for its unabashedly simple art style. Silly me. I should know better than to do something like that by now. Nominated for Excellence in Audio at the 2013 Independent Games Festival, 140 is the work of Jeppe Carlsen and Jakob Schmid of Playdead.

While I didn’t recognize his name and you likely won’t either (yet!), Carlsen was the lead gameplay designer on Limbo, one of the more interesting platformers to go mainstream in the past few years. He did the puzzles for the acclaimed game and 140 is a personal project of his that’s been in the works for over two years now.

With this trailer, they’ve got my attention. Was that a “boss fight” near the end? I’d like to see more where that came from.
