We knew that a Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken was definitely possible after seeing Capcom’s work on Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, but how well will the two versions work together in cross play?
Beautifully. Well, at least on the same network. I went hands-on with both the Vita and PS3 versions to test it out, and from what I could tell, the action was perfectly synced. Playing the Vita version, I held it up in front of the television displaying the PS3 session for a bit and noticed no difference; it was a frame-to-frame match. Throws, supers, cancels — everything perfectly mirrored. If it works this well online, over both WiFi and 3G (and yes, 3G online play is confirmed), Capcom will have set the bar high for console-to-portable cross play.
There’s another benefit to nabbing the Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken beyond the cross play features. The 12 new characters in the portable version will carry over to the console version, unlocking them for play. And, in turn, all DLC will also carry over.
We look forward to putting the cross play features of Street Fighter x Tekken to the test when it drops this fall.
