The rumors have finally been validated, for Sony have unveiled plans for an 80 gigabyte PS3 to hit stores in Korea on June 16. Retailing for the Korean equivalent of $556 (before tax), there has been nothing confirmed about a release in other countries, although it would seem likely. That said, a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has come out to say that there are no current plans for a European release, at least. There’s a surprise.

This is a change from Sony’s original insistence that there were no plans to release a new version of the PS3. Evidentally, they have altered the deal, pray they do not alter it again. So far, Sony have said that the only difference between the Korean model and the worldwide console is the larger hard drive. While some extra giggles in your console are always nice, will Sony really want to start releasing more expensive versions of the PS3 round these parts?
